Beatport RSS Feeds 0.1
Update: In addition to the genres available below, you can also get RSS feeds for labels here.
Totally Unofficial Beatport RSS Feeds are now available! I’ve been using it with NetVibes as my feed reader for a while, which works perfectly and it has a built in mp3 player, so you can listen to all the new tracks on one page. Here’s a action screenshot. You can also use the feeds in iTunes as a podcast and in Firefox as a Live Bookmark. Google Reader has problems though. Here’s a list of RSS readers for you to try out. If you use these feeds and encounter any issues or have any suggestions, please leave a comment.
The feeds are cached, so updates will normally show up every hour. The feeds are usually accurate to Beatport’s New Releases genre pages, but sometimes you can listen to tracks on the feeds that haven’t yet made it to the site.
Tip: Add ‘&type=m3u’ to the end of the URL to get a streaming playlist for your media player.

i’m really glad i found your blog, it’s great! i’m trying to do the ‘&tpye=m3u’ customization, and although i can do it from the IExplorer address bar, i’d like to have my individual feeds bring up the playlist, is there a way to do this? thanks.

The best solution (for the moment) would be to create a favorite in IE for each genre, adding ‘&type=m3u’ to the end of the URL. This would automatically launch your media player and play each track.
I might try adding a “Play all tracks in feed” link to the bottom of each item in the feed, after I finish adding more complete track information to the description.

I’m a bit late with these news, but they are still worth mentioning once again. Top notch electronic mp3 site BeatPort has made its 1 millionth download, as I read couple of days ago on a special email sent by

[...] Mike over at Altovideo has sniffed out RSS feeds from Beatport! It looks like he has had some communication with Beatport since development and now the feeds are official. For anyone unfamiliar with RSS feeds, this is from Wikipedia: The technology of RSS allows Internet users to subscribe to websites that have provided RSS feeds; these are typically sites that change or add content regularly. To use this technology, site owners create or obtain specialized software (such as a content management system) which, in the machine-readable XML format, presents new articles in a list, giving a line or two of each article and a link to the full article or post. Unlike subscriptions to many printed newspapers and magazines, most RSS subscriptions are free. [...]

love it! but can you fix the Deep House feed? its not working and that’s what i’m after! Thanks!
Mike said

OK, Deep House feeds are fixed. I think Beatport re-organized the genres so that Deep House would have its own landing page, and that broke the rss feeds. If anyone cares, you can go to Music -> House -> View by Subgenre -> Deep and its broken there too.
New URL: Deep House feed.

Hi-
I’m Scott from Beatport. i’m sorry, but we’re going to sue you. j/k!
However, these feeds are still unofficial and unsupported and Beatport takes no responsibility in relation to them. That being said…
I actually have some updates for you as I was reading the posts…so here we go:
-We broke 1-million downloads near the turn of the year, as noted. Not too long afterwards, we broke 2-million downloads and are rounding the corner on 3-mil! Thanks so much for your support!
-Regarding Deep House – it was added as it’s own main genre and is no longer a sub-genre of house. The same applies to Tech-House which is it’s own main genre now. In addition, Acid-House has been moved from house to a sub-genre of Tech-House. We also have added a totally new genre, Psy-Trance. Whewww. I hope that helps clear up any confusion.
Thanks for the continued support!

Is there a way for the feed to show only releases from a certain label?
Mike said
4 years ago, mid-June
Che: Not at the moment. I haven’t implemented that feature because there aren’t very many genres compared to the number of labels. I can cache each feed and only update them at most once an hour, so I don’t make more than 1000 or so requests to beatport a day. Having a few hundred labels with their own feeds updated at the same rate would mean 10 or 20 thousand requests a day. I’m not sure that beatport or my webhost would appreciate that.

hi mike,
not wanting to complain at what is a fantastic free service you’re providing, are the feeds working properly at the moment? I’ve got one release coming in up in say electro house for the past week +, theres 3 pages on beatport. I’m thinking beatport 3.0 isn’t quite working well with the feeds or something? I’ve tried 3 differnet feed readers (netvibes, pluck, infoRSS for firefox).
Also a problem I’ve always had with infoRSS is that feeds keep re-appearing after i’ve read or closed them.are you aware of any conflicts? it’s a news ticker style reader that incorporates into firefox browser.
anyway thanks for you time and the work you put into these.

Im presuming this has stopped working since beatport moved to version 2.
Is it still possible for this to work now? will keep a look out for updates!
Mike said

Carl: Since version 3, yes. I’ve completed an update, but its on hold right now because there’s no apparent way to link directly to a release. Still working on it.

Hi Mike,
I have been working on a little personal application which screen scrapes various mp3 sites. All it does effectivly does is give me a list of all new releases on 3 different sites and links to the preview clips.
Id really like to include beatport, but obviously I can screen scrape as its flash, can you give me any clue how you got the data from beatport? I know it doesnt work on the new current version but I dont actually need to link to beatport.
I just need to be able access the artist, track, mix and the url of the preview mp3 clip. Is this going to be possible?
Any clues would be great, im developing my app using asp.net 2.0 c#
Thanks!

Hi Mike-
Scott from Beatport here. We’ve finally gotten the thumbs up for official Beatport RSS feeds. However, I have a couple questions for you that would really help in passing this project on to our developers. Shoot me an email if you can.
Thanks,
Scott

Hello Mike, first of all great job! I have a question though. I would like to use one of your Beatport Feeds (Techno – All) to auto-import on my board.
All works well except that the layout gets screwed up by the board. Here is an example:

It would be great if you could find a fix for this, for example by adding extra break tags or something …

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to get a feed of the top 100 downloads in various genres? i.e. top 100 progressive house as a rss feed?
Thanks
